Andrew Mack will visit Oslo and give a seminar about the recently launched Human Security Report. The Human Security Centre at University of British Columbia worked closely with the Centre for the Study of Civil War at PRIO and the Department of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University in producing this report, which provides evidence for a major decline in violent conflict and genocide since the end of the Cold War. It also demonstrates that wars are far less deadly than before. The comprehensive three-year study shows surprising evidence of major declines in armed conflicts, genocides, human rights abuse, military coups and international crises, worldwide. The number of armed conflicts has dropped 40% since 1992. This unheralded decline is linked to a dramatic increase in UN Conflict Prevention and Peace Building Efforts.
