This dataset builds on and extends the UCDP/PRIO Armed Conflict Database with information about the religious dimensions of state-based conflicts, for each conflict-year. The dataset uses various academic sources to code religious affiliations of the government and rebel actors involved, whether these differ, and the presence of a state religion. It additionally combines information from existing datasets to capture religious discrimination, fractionalization, and polarization.
The dataset was originally coded by Jo-Eystein Lindberg's for his study on the effect of religious cleavages on the intensity and duration of internal conflicts.
