On November 22-23, an excellent first workshop on Liberal Peace and the Ethics of Peacebuilding was held at Holmenkollen Park Hotel. This year's theme was Conceptual Approaches and the aim was to build a framework for the whole Liberal Peace project, and also a toolbox for the upcoming case-studies which are due to be presented next year.Excellent presentations were given by Oliver Richmond (St.Andrews), Eli Stamnes (NUPI), Lars Christie (MFA), Kristoffer Lidén and J. Peter Burgess (both PRIO). The debate was further enhanced by the guest presentations from Michal Pugh (Bradford) and Roger MacGinty (York), both considered to be among the leading international experts in the field.
Following this extremely successful workshop, the standard has now been set for next year's papers to be given by Stein Sundstøl Eriksen and Ole Jacob Sending from NUPI, Shahrbanou Tadjbakhsh (Science-Po, Paris) and PRIO's own expertise; Gina Lende, Inger Skjelsbæk, Torunn Tryggestad and Endre Stiansen. No doubt they'll manage, and we can look forward to another very fruitful workshop.
