On September 11, 2001, the first deadline for the new academic title Journal of Military Ethics, to be published by Taylor & Francis, occurred. On that same day, events passed which had a deep impact on the debate about the use of armed force.
On Friday, September 9, the Journal of Military Ethics celebrates its 10-year anniversary at Akershus Fortress in Oslo. The seminar is a joint collaborative effort between the journal, the Norwegian Defense University College (Forsvarets Høyskole) and PRIO. At the seminar, leading military ethicists from Norway and the US, the two countries which hold the editorial offices of the journal, will debate the most important current challenges within military ethics, including the status and role of military ethics ten years after 9/11, the relationship between religion and military ethics, and the tensions between local cultures and international standards of ethics and law.
Among the speakers will be Rebecca Johnson, George R. Lucas, James Turner Johnson, Martin Cook, and Bård Mæland, among several others.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
Deadline for signing up is September 1.
