In India, food security has primarily been the concern of Agriculture and Economics. However, food security has much wider implications when we consider those who grow food and their security, and the challenge of procuring good quality food to distribute through the Public Distribution System. The nexus between local bureaucrats and politicians, big production companies and mining companies, and the uprooting of farmers from their land, turning them into urban nomads – these are also issues of importance to this conference.
