Extremism in West Africa has gained momentum, putting civilians at risk and causing unrest, but the response against violent extremism and terrorism is under way. The Economic Community of West African States, the main regional player in West Africa, currently has several instruments to fight violent extremism and terrorism. But what role should preventive diplomacy play in the fight against violent extremism and terrorism in West Africa?
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Togo Robert Dussey will present his thoughts on violent extremism in West Africa, and the value of preventative diplomacy. Dussey also holds a doctorate in political philosophy, giving him a unique perspective from which to examine the topic.
Øystein H. Rolandsen (Senior Researcher, PRIO) and Jenny Lorentzen (Doctoral Researcher, PRIO) will comment and discuss.
