We welcome you to this public seminar at Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) launching the International Humanitarian Studies Association (IHSA) Disasters Special Issue on humanitarian governance.

How do humanitarian organizations make policy, what do they make policy on, and what do they use it for? While there is an enormous amount of humanitarian policy-making going on, this seminar will explore a topic rarely discussed in its own right, namely the nuts and bolts of humanitarian policy making as a form of humanitarian governance. Why are certain themes suddenly the objects of policy production and how do 'buzzword' policies travel through humanitarian space? Based on PRIO's contributions to the IHSA special issue, we discuss the work done by policy initiatives around the Protection of Civilians (PoC) agenda, rights-based approaches and technological innovation.

Join PRIO researchers and outside experts for a discussion on why certain themes are suddenly the objects of policy production and how policies travel through humanitarian space.
