The Israeli war in Gaza, following the terror attacks executed by Hamas on October 7, 2023, has raised serious concerns over regional spread of the conflict. In a region that is host to a disproportionate share of the world’s armed conflict, there are a multitude of hot spots and lines of confrontation, all with some connection to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. This webinar will take stock of the regional dimensions of the situation in Israel and Gaza and answer questions, such as: What are the main conflict lines, military activities, and escalation risks at the regional level? What have various states and multilateral actors – in the region and beyond – done to prevent regional escalation? What strategies are missing in this regard? Is time ripe for a regional platform in which states of the region come together, both to prevent escalation and to inform and support political solutions?
This is the second installment in a series of webinars addressing various aspects of the Israel/Palestine war, co-sponsored by the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies and Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO).
