In August 2023, the PRIO NORM team was in Jakarta, Indonesia, to conduct fieldwork interviews and meetings with local stakeholders.
The project’s institutional partner, the Centre for International and Strategic Studies (CSIS) Jakarta, organised and hosted a public seminar on 7 August. Project leader Ilaria Carrozza and project partner Fitriani from CSIS presented the research project and shared preliminary findings from the over 30 interviews conducted so far. The findings were summarised in a draft report which will be published in the coming months. Feedback on the report was provided by members of the Indonesian government, civil society and the tech sector. The audience also included academics, researchers and think tanks, as well as the private sector and members of government agencies dealing with cybersecurity. The discussion focused upon the challenges for Indonesia to digitalize its economy and the opportunities that technology brings for boosting development, as well as Indonesia’s position in the Sino-US technological and political rivalry.
