The PRIO Peace Research Course at the International Summer School is now opening for students to apply for places for the 2025 programme.
The International Summer School at the University of Oslo is an academic centre for learning in an international context, and a forum for fostering intercultural understanding. The Peace Research course has been part of the University of Oslo International Summer School since 1969. This master’s level course runs from 30 June to 25 July 2025.
About the Course
PRIO collaborates with the International Summer School on the Peace Research course, which provides a comprehensive introduction to peace studies, combined with a more focused study of selected areas and themes. PRIO is responsible for the academic syllabus, as well as for teaching and other practical matters.
Key topics include:
- Causes and consequences of armed conflict
- Conflict resolution
- Gender, identity and human rights
- Humanitarian intervention
- Peacekeeping and peacebuilding efforts
The course incorporates key insights into peace processes, negotiation strategies, and the ethical challenges of conflict intervention.
Its mission is to equip students with a deeper understanding of conflict dynamics to foster effective resolutions.

Application Deadlines
- Scholarship application deadline: 14 February
- Self-financed application deadline: 3 March
Admission to the course is highly competitive. Applicants are required to hold a bachelor’s degree or higher, and have a demonstrated interest in peace and conflict issues. Students come from a wide array of countries across the globe and have various backgrounds and experiences. Many are from the field of political and social sciences, while others have a more practical experience in the aid industry.
