Monika is a PhD Student at the Berghof Foundation and the Free University of Berlin and a member of the Research School on Peace and Conflict. She holds a Masters Degree in Peace and Conflict Research from the Uppsala University. She is working on the effects of violent tactics within nonviolent campaigns on the campaign’s ability exercise power and mobilize the masses. During her stay she will be working on how different types of violent tactics (unarmed violence, riots, and armed violence) alter the state’s cost-benefit-calculation to explain government responses in terms of concessions, repressions or inaction. A brief description of her research interests and her PhD project is available here https://www.berghof-foundation.org/en/about-us/people/monika-onken/.
