Dr. Min Zaw Oo has extensive experiences in the fields of security analysis, peace processes, and political situations in Myanmar. He has been involved in the country's peace process since its inception in 2012, and currently serves as the Executive Director of the Myanmar Institute for Peace and Security (MIPS), where he conducts policy research and analysis and has produced over 100 security assessments and publications. He is also a non-resident adjunct fellow at the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Security (CSIS). Min has played a key role in the peace process in Myanmar, including serving as the Executive Director of the Technical Secretariat Centre of the Joint Ceasefire Monitoring Committee, advising the Peace Commission established by the NLD-led government, and providing technical support for the negotiation of the historic Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement and 15 bilateral ceasefire agreements. Additionally, Min has extensive experience in security assessments and field research, including serving as the Director of Research at Democracy International's election-strengthening project in Afghanistan and directing a research division at a subsidiary of US-based IDS International. Min was an independent consultant for the Genocide Early Warning Project for four years. He received his Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University, M.A. in Security Studies from Georgetown University, and B.A. from the University of Maryland. George Mason University awarded Min as a Distinguished Alumni Exemplar in 2018. Min's research interests include using data-science tools and artificial intelligence to conduct conflict and security assessments, as well as designing ceasefire and dialogue mechanisms.
