In the coming decade the modes in which we bank and shop will change dramatically through the application of biometrics to financial transactions. This policy brief discusses the ethical and societal implications of biometrics becoming an increasing part of our everyday financial lives. In particular, this brief focuses on two pieces of European regulation that address the use of biometrics in finance and commerce, and offers a set of policy recommendations designed to ensure transparency and responsibility in using individual data.
