Despite the substantial gains made by humanitarian disarmament campaigns over the last 30 years, these processes appear to be losing momentum. To explore how to revitalize work on humanitarian disarmament, in 2023 we organized the Humanitarian Disarmament Roundtable conference in Oslo, which brought together 55 experienced practitioners from civil society, national governments, international organizations and academia to discuss topics ranging from the protection of civilians from the use of explosive weapons, to the prohibition and regulation of autonomous weapon systems. Insights from these discussions are presented across five related policy briefs.
In this final brief, we summarize key takeaways from the conference discussions on ways ahead for the humanitarian disarmament agenda.
