The impact of the Cyprus problem on the protection of the environment

This report argues that the Cyprus problem creates detrimental consequences for the protection of the environment on the island of Cyprus. It does this in three ways:  First, it makes it impossible to have an accurate environmental picture of the whole of Cyprus. Second, the non-recognition of the areas not under the effective control of the Republic has led to the deprioritisation of the need to protect the environment.  And third, environmental issues are often overshadowed and deprioritized by discussions relating to the Cyprus problem.
