This workshop of the CSCW Working Group "Human Rights, Governance and Conflict" evaluates the impact of different political agents and institutions on violence. It investigates the dynamics of violence during different stages of conflict, analyzing the escalation of violence, the use of violence during civil war and the reaction to violence in post-conflict situations. Particular attention is given to how institutions can manipulate the incentives, and disincentives, of actors to employ violence under various settings within and outside of conditions of civil war.
