Over the last 30 years AI technologies have increasingly been integrated into warfare. But ethical and legal reflection has lagged behind technical innovation. It is urgent that the normative issues be identified so that sound policies can be developed. What restrictions or prohibitions should be put in place so that harmful weapon technologies are not fielded? What steps can be taken to ensure an ethical culture within organizations that develop and use new AI-based weapon technologies?
