The last 2014 issue of the GPS Update is packed with reports from PRIO events that have taken place over the past three months. The lead story in this issue is on the Symposium on Women’s Rights and Empowerment in Afghanistan, which took place in Oslo on 23 November and was hosted by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Afghan and US authorities, PRIO, the Afghan Women’s Network, and Georgetown Institute of Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS).

You will also find reports from the fourth High-Level Seminar on Gender and Inclusive Mediation Processes, the launch of the new OSCE Study on National Action Plans on the Implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 authored by PRIO Researcher Christin Ormhaug, a seminar at PRIO on NATO and the Women, Peace and Security agenda, and a breakfast seminar on Gender-based Violence in Conflict. It has been a busy period, culminating in the Successful Doctoral Defense by PRIO Researcher Torunn L. Tryggestad for her PhD dissertation.

As usual, the GPS Update also gives you an update on relevant seminars, reports and policy briefs, as well as a list of publications which might be of interest to our readership.

The PRIO Gender, Peace and Security Update is an electronic newsletter launched by PRIO’s Gender Research Group in response to growing interest among the public for information about women, peace and security issues. The newsletter will keep readers informed of the latest developments both internationally and in Norway in relation to UN Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000) on Women, Peace and Security and subsequent resolutions.
