Inger Skjelsbæk will receive the Ingrid Aune memorial prize 2022 for her research on conflict-related sexual violence. Skjelsbæk is a Research Professor at PRIO and the Director of the Centre for Gender Research, University of Oslo.
The Ingrid Aune Memorial Foundation honours the memory of the politician Ingrid Aune, who died in 2019 at the age of 33. Each year, the foundation awards a prize to someone who has made a journalistic or academic contribution that highlights the causes that were championed by Aune: disarmament, peace work, gender equality, and the rights of women in conflict areas.
This year, Inger Skjelsbæk will receive the prize for her research on conflict-related sexual violence, a topic that has unfortunately become particularly relevant due to the war in Ukraine. She leads the ERC-funded project EuroWARCHILD, which aims to understand the experiences and needs of children born of war.
–[Skjelsbæk] is a courageous voice who highlights the situation of women and the sexualized violence occurring in Ukraine right now, says Marianne Marthinsen, chairperson of the memorial foundation, to the Norwegian newspaper Klassekampen.
The prize will be handed out at an event at the House of Literature in Oslo on 19 October.
