The Research Council of Norway announced new research funding this week under its Democracy and Global Development panel. PRIO was successful in securing funding for the three research projects below:

  • Micro-Foundations of Peace: Bureaucrats, Civilians and Peacebuilding in Colombia (MicroPeace), led by Senior Researcher Helga Malmin Binningsbø.
  • Expanding the Search for New Ways of Working Along the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus (EXPAND), led by Research Professor Cindy Horst.
  • How Populist Illiberal Regimes Shape Gender Norms in Europe (CONTEST), led by Senior Researcher Pinar Tank.

Additionally, PRIO is part of another funded project on global health led by the University of Oslo, which includes Research Professor Simon Reid-Henry.

Reflecting on this achievement, PRIO’s Director Henrik Urdal stated, “These successes underscore PRIO’s commitment to high-quality research and our ability to compete at the highest levels. I am incredibly proud of our researchers and their dedication to addressing some of the most pressing global challenges of today.”

This week’s success is in addition to two additional projects recently funded under the FRIPRO scheme in June, led by PRIO researchers Gudrun Østby and Sebastian Schutte.

“PRIO’s continued success in securing competitive funding highlights our institute’s strength in producing impactful research that contributes to global peace and development. We look forward to the innovative insights and practical solutions these projects will bring to the forefront of their respective fields,” said Urdal.
