The Violence & Impacts Early-Warning System (VIEWS), a collaborative project between PRIO and Uppsala University, has been awarded a Special Distinction by the prestigious Kluz Prize for PeaceTech.

VIEWS unites a suite of state-of-the-art research projects dedicated to exploring novel ways to forecast violent conflicts and their impacts on society and human development. Their results inform an award-winning conflict prediction system that generates monthly forecasts for violent conflicts across the world up to three years in advance.

The project stood out among over 90 applicants worldwide, impressing the Selection Committee with its strong academic foundations, and potential to inform both technical and non-technical audiences.

Reacting to the recognition, Professor Håvard Hegre who leads VIEWS said, “we are honored to receive this distinction. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team. Our goal has always been to leverage technology to predict and possibly prevent conflicts and their adverse impacts. This award reinforces the importance of our mission.”

The judges highlighted the remarkable nature of the VIEWS project and its potential to mitigate the suffering caused by large-scale wars through regular, accurate forecasts.

The recognition underscores the significant impact of the collaborative efforts between PRIO and Uppsala University in advancing peace research and technology.
