Navigating the New Space Race: Implications for Norwegian Security Policy and Defence Industry

Space is central to both commercial interests and national defence. This project will explore the implications of the arms race in outer space, especially between the U.S. and China, and identify the relevance for Norwegian defence strategy. The aim is to enhance public-private collaboration in space technologies, such as satellite systems and surveillance, and provide policy recommendations on how to strengthen the Norwegian defence industry in pursuit of total defence. The project has two specific goals: to assess how international developments in space impact Norwegian security and defence, and to recommend ways to bolster the defence industry through public-private and international collaborations.
