As the global balance of power shifts, Southeast Asia finds itself at the crossroads of economic transformation, technological advancement, and strategic realignments. One key element in this evolving landscape is China’s Digital Silk Road (DSR), a crucial component of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) aimed at positioning China as the global technological superpower. This initiative promises to reshape the global digital order and could trigger a technological and normative rift with far-reaching geopolitical consequences.

This event brings together insights from a three-year research project that has examined the political and social impacts of China’s digital technology exports to Southeast Asia, with a focus on Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Through a comparative lens, we will explore how these countries are navigating the opportunities and risks presented by China’s digital investments, while also considering the broader implications for regional and global power dynamics.

Join us for an engaging discussion that connects the shifting world order with the digital revolution, exploring how Southeast Asia’s response to the Digital Silk Road could redefine the geopolitical landscape of the 21st century.
