Since 1969, Journal of Peace Research (JPR) has published short Book Notes in addition to longer Review Essays. From 2014, the Book Notes have been published open access and online at PRIO’s website, with a link from the JPR page at our publisher’s site. They are indexed by Google and frequently downloaded. The Book Notes are published online shortly after they have been approved by the editor. Review Essays, which are published infrequently, remain as published articles in the print journal. For Book Notes published in the print journal, see Web of Science or the journal issues at JSTOR.

The basic rules for the Book Notes remain the same: The books should be relevant to the topics covered by the journal and preferably published in the same year or the year before. The reviewer should be competent in the field and should not be a colleague or a recent close collaborator of the author(s) or editor(s) of the book. The overall length of the Book Note, including a full bibliographic reference and the reviewer’s name and affiliation, should be no more than 300 words. For the format, see the published Book Notes below.

The editor of the column is Nils Petter Gleditsch who can be reached at booknoteseditor@prio.org.
